Client Results

A New York City based company asked us to scout marketing students at Stanford. Historically, they had not been successful hiring students despite making multiple offers. It was expensive and time consuming to launch a full recruiting effort on the opposite coast. The MBA Scouting Report took the company’s very specific screening criteria and identified five Stanford students who were outstanding. The company liked the backgrounds of all five, brought them in for on-site interviews and hired two students. They bought a single report at Stanford, never had to visit campus and had their best yield of any school.

A client asked us to scout students at Duke and ran a test versus their own efforts. The client conducted a full recruiting program including a corporate presentation, and generated a target list of students based on attendance at their recruiting events and a review of resumes. Of the ten candidates we identified in the MBA Scouting Report, six were invited for second-round interviews. They made offers to three and successfully hired all three. From their own schedule, they hired one student and agreed that their strongest hire came from the MBA Scouting Report. Last year when they also ran a full recruiting program, they made multiple offers, and had no acceptances. The client has asked us to scout at Duke again and is proposing that the MBA Scouting Report be used corporate wide.

A client who does not have a summer internship program, asked us to scout women and minority students at Wharton. They believed that they lost out on many strong candidates who were recruited straight from their internship programs. The MBA Scouting Report identified ten students who met the client’s screening criteria and were interested in the type of opportunity the client offered. Although there are no hiring results to report, the client has connected with the students and when geographically possible, will invite them to receptions and other events over the summer. The students have been positively impressed with the company’s outreach efforts.

Student Response

My conversation was great. …. It seems like a great way for the company to get a good understanding of candidates.

I really enjoyed my experience … and felt flattered going into the opportunity that I was scouted beforehand. Being scouted was definitely a very positive experience for me.

The meeting [the scout] conducted was very professional, effective yet pleasant which left me with a very positive impression.
- Wenjie, Wharton ‘07

The meeting on campus was very professional and informative. I was impressed with the questions that were asked and I felt that she really got a sense of who I am and what I had accomplished professionally. …. Being scouted for the company actually made me think more of American Express and their hiring practices. I am impressed that they wanted a diverse group of interns from many schools and I felt that scouting allowed them to do this effectively.
- Ann, Stanford ‘07

I thought the process as a whole was very well done, personal, and professional. It was a positive experience for me from start to finish.
- Sloan, Northwestern ‘07

The interview was professional, although the process was more of a conversation than an interview. The conversation was appropriate for getting to know the candidates better as well as gaining insight into their backgrounds and personalities. …. I was not aware I was being scouted by J&J so it did not affect my decision to accept their offer of a summer internship. However, it reinforces the fact that the company values corporate culture and “fit” and does its best to ensure that the recruitment process is one of mutual benefit.

I thought the scouting experience was good as well. As a student looking for an internship, it’s always nice to have another opportunity to try and showcase your talents. Ultimately, the scouting session helped me in the recruiting process so I think it was a positive experience for me.

Thanks for the opportunity to interview with Deutsche bank which might not have happened otherwise, thus scouting was a positive experience for me.

I enjoyed my meeting with the scout. It was informative and worth my time.

It is always nice to know that someone out there wants to talk to you.
